Expecting something different, maybe?

Sarah Palin either "didn't blink," or had a family talk about whether she should accept the vice presidential nomination. Either way this is a little surprising:

... For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said. Accordingly, her family will be with her in Sedona during this week. Also, a key Alaska staffer joined the Palin operation Sunday. ...

Mr. Palin, sir, sorry to be the one to have to tell you this. Perhaps it should have been covered in the family meeting where the decision was made to run. Maybe a McCain staffer should have mentioned it, but ...

Sarah Palin is running for vice president of the United States, a national office. You can't phone that in from Wasilla, still make the Henderson's block parties on the weekend and supper every night at 6pm sharp. When you're on a presidential ticket, your family mostly has to come see you and your friends hopefully understand that you're, you know, busy. The work schedule includes hours that start at the ****crack of dawn and finish after the start of the next day, while your meals involve any number of awkward diner drop-ins under the cameras and fundraising banquets. Oh, and there's the travel. Takes up a bit of time.

I personally can't understand why anyone would want to subject themselves to that, but people do. No one gets into this level of political competition in order to spend more time with their families. Except John McCain, whom Cindy McCain has said spends more time with her on the campaign trail than he does when handling a Senate job in DC. But look, each family has their own situation.

Hm....... I dunno. Are you sure about where those "undisclosed locations" aren't? Posted by: Barry Leiba at September 29, 2008 01:01 PM

(But, yeah, I've always wondered, too, why anyone would do that to themselves. And for what amounts to a pretty low salary for being the CEO of a major multinational country.

I figure George Bush got double the salary because he doesn't get the blo[don't GO there, Barry!].)
