The man who saved our world.

If you were alive in 1983, Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov probably saved your life. (And if you were born since 1983, you most likely owe the fact of your birth to him, too.)

To this day, Petrov doesn't think that he did anything heroic on 26 Sept 1983. This magpie begs to differ.

I beg to differ, as well. Stanislav Petrov not only saved our lives, but those of most of his countrymen as well. Had he launched, we would have inevitably retaliated, and that would have been the beginning of the end for both societies.
