Twittering Mars

I love Twitter. Certainly, I loved it until today, when I discovered that the archive seems to expire about three months back. V annoyed. Even though it allows me to follow the Mars lander's Twitter feed, which had these reports today:

MarsPhoenix Some organisms on Earth thrive in extreme environments. Determining habitability of Mars is key to this mission, and this helps the puzzle. about 2 hours ago from web

MarsPhoenix Asparagus and other plants would like this soil, but wouldn't grow on Mars due to other factors. Soil is friendly but not the environment. about 3 hours ago from web

MarsPhoenix The friendly dirt has salts and nutrients magnesium, sodium, potassium and chloride. And pH of 8. You could grow asparagus, say scientists. about 3 hours ago from web

MarsPhoenix More on Martian soil: MP3 of today's science briefing now available at http://is.gd/GXx Written info and images at www.nasa.gov/phoenix about 3 hours ago from web

MarsPhoenix Sci team reports "Martian mud" in the wet chem experiment contains nutrients and is alkaline, 8 to 9 on pH scale! It's "friendly" dirt. about 6 hours ago from web

I mean, how cool is that? Wahoo for microblogging. Also, we've totally got to terraform that place. Sure, a created atmosphere would only last about 5 million years, give or take, but I think we could work with that.

Can't hate Twitter after that, but not gruntled.

Update, later that night: I really am displeased that I lost my feed archive from the IPDI conference and various things like that. I remember having written something silly like, "blogger rampant, Wealth of Nations in her left hand, she regards a Blackberry in her right as her Doc booted feet crush a recalcitrant Dell", or "we are borg, we have dismantled your robot overlords for parts. you're welcome.", but not the fun and interesting quotes from friends, strangers and public speakers I'd accumulated.

I don't understand why I like this microblog format, but I do. And if you can believe it, 82 ppl have signed up to follow these updates as of today, the permanent 'shorter me' feed. Some of them have no need whatever to know when I've had to turn my cell off because I lost my charger. It boggles me.

I guess I should just keep it here, but there isn't, afaik, any automatic sync with MovableType, particularly not the ancient version we're using because I never got around to updating it. Gaaah. Well, anyway, I'm archiving what I've got so far in this post. At this rate, that'll give me a couple months to figure out what to do about this.

So here goes, misspellings, economized txt speak, and all. Sorry my name's in there so often, I just want to copy this stuff somewhere right now and not fiddle with it much. If it's in quotes, someone else said it, or sung it, or wrote it, and I may or may not have included attribution. For popular song lyrics and random conversational replays, I generally do not directly attribute quotes. If it has someone else's name after it with a separating dash, it's a paraphrase with attribution. The feed starts, all the way at the bottom, on the first day of the Take Back America conference in DC, goes through Eschacon later that month, and covers mostly the ridiculous and mundane. ...
