Taxes and Social Security

The things everyone knows about taxes and social security aren't true. And by everyone, I mean all the usual talking head suspects and the unfortunate people who have to rely on them as their sole source of information about those things they don't have personal knowledge of.

Shorter the very pithy linked post: Social Security is fine*, taxes can coexist with a healthy economy, tax cuts don't increase revenue.

* Barring that the full faith and credit of the US government is worth no more than a bucket of warm spit, that is. But if the US government defaults on all of its debts, which includes things like treasury bonds and so forth, probably most of us will have more immediate causes for alarm than the state of Social Security. After all, I expect that you'd need a pretty devastating catastrophe to bring about such a thing.
