The Shock Doctrine - 1st, The Shock

Naomi Klein starts her book with a brief history of the US government's decades long history of promoting torture in other countries, as based on research they paid to have carried out on unsuspecting Canadian psychiatric patients. The intent of the research was to essentially erase people's minds by destroying their ability to orient themselves in time and space.

A survivor of Katrina put it best in the book. When talking about the craven glee expressed by Louisiana politicians over New Orleans being wiped clean and made open to new opportunities, she said, "No, they're not blind, they're evil. They see just fine."
