Barack Obama at the DNC

Obama just said that our real opponent is cynicism. Maybe that will be the new Obama campaign slogan, 'Vote Obama, fight the war on cynicism.'

"We have 135,000 troops fighting a war half way around the world, ... that should never have been waged, by leaders who have no plan to end it. We don't have time to be cynical."

"We have always been at our best in this country when we aim high."

Healthcare: Let's take advantage of the fact that business and labor both have come to realize that the current system is unsustainable. Iraq: Whether you were for or against it, let's agree that it's time to bring our troops home. Building on the themes he introduced in his barnburning speech before the 2004 Democratic National Convention, after introducing an issue, he followed it with a suggestion for a common ground of agreement.

"Where there's cynicism, hope is always stronger. ... That's what we offer the American people: Hope." Obama said that while Democrats have had white papers and plans, hope is what's needed now.

Obama exited the ballroom in a near impenetrable crush of press and prospective constituents.
