Who Is the Army Recruiting Today?

armyad.jpg

Tonight on Josh Marshall's Talking Point Memo, this ad was prominently displayed making me wonder if the Army has realized that the chicken hawks on the right are just full of hot air when it comes to making the sacrifices they call others to make. We all know that they are extremely gungho for war (any war) and think that the US should be ready to invade or bomb any country just because someone might say bad things about the United States. Yet, they don't want to do the dirty work themselves. Despite their love of war, it's other peoples children or spouses or parents that should sign up to serve making America safe so that they and George Bush's daughters can get rich and Paris Hilton can get even richer. Perhaps the Army's decided that the patriotic liberals who actually love their country for its democratic traditions might stand up to serve.

Nevertheless, it would be a cold day in hell before I'd recommend anyone to sign up for a military that is headed by Donald Rumsfeld or George W. Bush. No wonder the Army is having a difficult time recruiting these days.

I've heard that enlistment quotas were achieved this year. But, I'm wondering if they were lowered to match expectations, and, how soon before the announcement were they lowered?
