Christmas Bird Count Time Again

One of my favorite activities during the Christmas season is partaking in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. This year, Portland's Christmas Bird Count will be held on December 31st. If you are in the area and want to participate in this year's count, you can find contact information here.

Today NPR's Science Friday had a wonderful piece to celebrate the CBC by talking with the scientists that have been searching for the Ivory Billed Woodpecker. The section was really fascinating and the sound recordings that they played are incredible proof that the bird has indeed been rediscovered. In my opinion, that was the best news story of the entire year.
