D.C. Job With Gregoire

If you live in D.C. (or presumably would be willing to move there) and would like to work for Governor Gregoire, here's your chance. As it's mentioned on the flip at the bottom, the application deadline is April 6th. And in case you were wondering, this was forwarded to me over email by the friend of a recruiter who picked it up on a listserv. The office of Governor Gregoire is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the Director of the Governorís Washington, DC office. This position is located in the Washington, DC Office and reports to the Director of the Governorís Executive Policy Office in Olympia, Washington.


The Director of the Governorís Washington, DC Office serves as Governor Gregoireís representative in Washington, DC. The incumbent manages the daily operation of the Washington, DC Office and is the liaison between the Governorís Office, Washington State cabinet-level agencies (ďstate agenciesĒ), and federal entities.

The Director represents the Governor and Washington State agencies to the congressional leaders, elected officials, and other high-level officials of public and private entities in Washington, DC. The incumbent may represent the Governor at federal and regional conferences, briefings, and national/regional organization events, such as the National Governorsí Association and the Western Governorsí Association.


Legislative Issue Coordination

  • Advise and assist the Governor and state agencies in the formulation, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of federal fiscal and legislative issues affecting the state of Washington.
  • Monitor federal legislation, the budget process, and federal regulations for the Governor and state agencies.
  • Ensure that pertinent information on the status of federal legislation and the budget process is communicated regularly to the Governor and state agencies.

Policy Development

  • In collaboration with the Governor and state agencies, identify, develop, and implement strategies to pursue the stateís federal priorities.
  • Communicate federal priorities identified by the Governor and state agencies to the Washington congressional delegation and others in Washington, DC on an ongoing basis.
  • Working directly with Governorís Executive Policy Office, develop and analyze the Governorís priority policy issues to maximize implementation of federal programs at the state level.

Other Federal/State Communication

  • Identify federal grant opportunities for state agencies and assist them in their efforts to obtain new federal grants or continue current federal grants.
  • On request, act as a liaison and assist state agencies in their work with the federal departments.
  • Carry out special projects and other assignments as needed.

Candidate Profile

Graduate degree in public policy, public administration, political science, law, or related field. An undergraduate degree may be accepted.

In-depth understanding and experience in policy development and/or analysis.

Ability to work effectively at all levels within the political environment including federal, state, city and county and familiarity with legislative and congressional process, policy development, and decision-making.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders. ...
