Electronic Illiteracy

What exactly is it with Bush and computer networks, anyway? I finally had time to dig up the 2000 debate transcript, so I'll share with you what was going through my mind when I heard this in yesterday's debate:

I hear there's rumors on the Internets (sic) that we're going to have a draft.

Ahh, memory lane, October 11, 2000.

Where a child can walk in and have their heart turned dark as a result of being on the Internet and walk in and decide to take somebody else's life?

Darn Internets!

I think we might need to turn our military on this dastardly internets thing. Maybe that is where the WMDs are!

C'mon, give him a break, it's just the ignorance of privelege. After all, his dad was surprised to find out they had price scanners at grocery stores. At least Junior has a high-tech bicycle! When he gets that figured out, perhaps he can get an Apple II.

Maybe we're missing some kind of code. Pluralized words that should be singular. Edwards' reference to "reader of other worlds." Perhaps they are all trying to tell us that they have discovered the Counter-Earth orbiting on precisely the opposite side of the Sun from us. They have an Internet, we have an Internet -- hence internets. Hey, if their U.S. is split between Reds and Blues as well, maybe we can do a mass exchange, leaving Earth U.S. all Blue, and Counter-Earth U.S. all Red.

Hi, I have not had coffee yet. "reader of other worlds" should be "leaders of other worlds".

If you're interested, here's a link to my attempt at a post-debate remix. It's pretty weak, but I do throw in the 'Internets' clip throughout the song.
