Freepers At CNN

A short while ago I was watching CNN, incensed that their coverage of the so-called 'Swiftboat Veterans For Truth' segment didn't feature any mention of McCain's recent disavowal of the group, as a teaser for the spot had claimed. They sort of left it up in the air, as though the truth were unknowable.

Then they segue into a piece covering speculation on the new movie, 'The Manchurian Candidate.' A headline gets flashed on the screen, and I suspect there's only one place that web shot could have come from. Sure enough, a quick search of the Free Republic turns up the title, "The Manchurian Candidate is John Kerry -- a Wholly Owned and Operated Subsidiary of George Soros." They follow this insult by reporting on Internet speculation, probably also from the Free Republic from the sound of it, that the female villain is Hillary Clinton. Bill Schneider, the correspondent responsible for this freeper-ogling session, reads a comment about a 'middle aged blonde' serving in the Senate and suggestively leaving it to the viewer to guess.

Where is this sodding 'liberal media' people keep talking about? I can't even find a fair and balanced media. As Atrios says, Call CNN at 404-827-1500. The show was CNN Live with Daryn Kagan, guest segment by Bill Schneider, and it aired around quarter to nine PST.

I was just watching the same thing and that the exact same reaction. That CNN report was total BS. See Daily Kos for more on these anti-Kerry Swiftboat frauds.

In re: Meryl Streep's charcter in The Manchurian Candidate - Nothing like airing abject lies, eh CNN? Why do I call it a lie rather than just laziness, CNN's usual m.o.? Well, that would be because the question itself is old news. It was answered by Streep herself, both to Entertainment Weekly and the NYT. Who did Meryl Streep base her evil Senator character on? Karen Hughes, Ann Coulter, Elizabeth Dole, and Peggy Noonan. The entire pantheon of raving right-wing looney ladies. Oh, then there's the fact that she specifically denied - numerous times - that it was Hillary Clinton she was imitating. All of this in 5 seconds on Google. CNN is 'liberal media' the same way Zell Miller's a Democrat.

I'll ditto all that. Schneider really let his bias show through on this one.

"The Manchurian Candidate is John Kerry -- a Wholly Owned and Operated Subsidiary of George Soros."

OMG, I just cracked a joke about that over at Washington Monthly:

John Kerry is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

I must be a closet freeper. Comes from spending too much time staring into the abyss...

"Comes from spending too much time staring into the abyss..."

Please excuse me, I'd be extremely careful if I were you. I am fairly certain I'm oversensitive to the filth of the GOP--for that precise reason I never watch CNN. I have to protect my mental health.

Still, pardon my arrogance, but...the sentence makes me uneasy. There are many, many days when I wonder if I've blown an opportunity to be happy that day by fixating on GOP abuses. I'm not so sure so much exposure to Republican evil (no, I'm not exagerating) is a wise thing to do, that's all.

paradox - I appreciate your concern. Don't worry, I'm taking BushCo's advice and am back on Prozac. It's working wonders.

"and am back on Prozac" - NTodd

Been drinking the water in England again, eh?

Steve - I saw that news item and had to laugh. Probably cheaper for me to go to England and bottle some of their water...
