I'm Going To Boston!

God willing. Creeks don't rise. Etc. That distant, fuzzy shout you heard a few minutes ago was me on finding out that I'm really, truly, on the list to get media credentials for the Democratic National Convention. Wow. A big "Thank You" to the convention credentialing committee.

And now, for the shameless request. Work has been scarce lately, and school costs have been accumulating on the credit card. A holiday in Boston is a bit outside the budget, so to anyone who is comfortably employed and can spare some extra for independent convention coverage, your donation would be deeply appreciated.

What I would also appreciate, and very much, is for well-wishing readers to send good vibes this general direction. Without those who've read and linked to this site, this invitation wouldn't be possible. So thanks in advance.

Update: I posted this in a hurry, had to run out to take care of something. But if anyone has anything they'd particularly like me to try and cover, or someone they'd like tracked down for an interview, I'll try to accomodate all reasonable requests.

Also, the Cyberjournalist is keeping a list of convention bloggers.

Would I be a troll if I said "have fun crossing those picket lines"?

Here is an excerpt from the Boston Globe:
"Boston's school bus drivers and monitors are planning a picket line outside the FleetCenter during the Democratic National Convention, reviving the specter of labor unrest outside the convention arena."

It is not apparent what driving a bus has to do with Fleet Center though, so maybe this threat is just a clever publicity stunt.

Congrats, Natasha! Having heard recently about bloggers becoming disinvited, I hope the invitation "holds".

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. And very much for the kind donations from a couple of you.

John - You bring up an interesting point. Maybe I'll be able to get an interview with some of the picketers.

natasha - I expect world exclusive interviews and astonishing facts. :-) (maybe something on the order of the Wilson frogmarching comment?) This is so wonderful!

I suspect that we will be watching coverage of the Convention and the major outlets will be wondering why Kerry is delayed in giving his acceptance speech. A vague rumor will be floating around that he, his running mate and their wives are giving an exclusive interview to a blogger from Seattle. Far fetched? Perhaps, but we would get a more in depth and honest analysis from Natasha then from CNN or MSNBC or whoever, so one can dream.

I will also be covering the convention as a blogger (www.greaterdemocracy.org/mt) I look forward to meeting you.

I am also curious about the details of how you heard. Did you receive a letter via U.S. Mail? Was it email, phone?

I received a letter. It said that I had Hall credentials. Is that what you received? I am particularly interested since Jerome Armstrong posted his letter online, and it showed him as having only perimeter credentials.

Anyway, congrats. I look forward to seeing you in Boston.

I'll be going. If you need advice on low cost ways to get around Boston, or other info, please email me. I'm from Boston - now living in Vermont - and just got "credentialled" via a phone call on Friday which was truly bizarre.

Natasha, I'll be there blogging, I'm looking forward to meeting you and Jessamyn.

Jeralyn & Jessamyn - it'll be good to meet you at the convention, thanks for the kind words.

Aldon - We've been in touch before. I'm the person you got contacted to set up the Dean flashmob at the Space Needle. Can't wait to hear your war stories ;)

They let me know officially by phone. The paperwork hasn't gotten here yet, but I suspect it's because the mail service has been unusually spotty here lately.

Hey, Natasha, I just sent you some DNC funding under my real name and email address. Be sure to look up my sister the delegate while you're at Fleet Center!
