Just a coincidence, we suppose.

This magpie spent our Fourth of July evening watching trash televison. Specifically, we watched the mid-1990s sci-fi special-effects vehicle, Independence Day. At one point, the movie president (who is a former fighter pilot) joins the make-or-break attack on the aliens' mothership.

Is it the real prez?

The movie prez reminded us of another prez:

Or is it just Dubya?

It sure would be nice to live in a country where the juxtaposition of those two photos didn't make us wonder whether Karl Rove got the idea for Dubya's flightsuit photo-op on the USS Abraham Lincoln from a bad sci-fi movie.

And we suspect the actor in the top photo would probably make a better president than the current occupant of the White House.

Perhaps not. The #2 result of googling "bill pullman political" was a campaign FAQ page forPullman for President!.

I thought that The Day After Tomorrow was unfairly criticized for being unrealistic whereas his other two movies, Independence Day and Godzilla got no such criticism
