Republicans lose another House seat.

Democrat Stephanie Herseth has won election to the US House of Representatives from South Dakota. Herseth defeated Republican Larry Diedrich in the race to fill the unexpired term of Bill Janklow, who resigned earlier this year after his conviction for manslaughter.

Herseth's victory is the second time this year that a Democrat has won a seat previously held by a Republican. However, Democrats are still eleven seats short of regaining a majority in the House.
