The amazing shrinking Iraqi sovereignty.

When 'sovereignty' is handed over to Iraq after June 30th, there's yet another power the new government won't have. The BBC reports that the US and UK are demanding that coalition troops be immune from Iraqi law.

Given recent revelations about the behavior of US troops toward Iraqi prisoners (and new allegations of torture carried out by UK troops), we imagine that potential leaders of the 'sovereign' Iraq aren't overjoyed over this prospect.

Via BBC.

Update: The UK Guardian reports that UK and US troops will have the immunity their governments want. The agreement was made in order to prevent tHe US or UK from vetoing a new UN Security Council resolution on the transfer of sovereignty.
