The difference a headline can make.

Last year, the number of terrorist attacks around the world dropped, according to US State Department figures. How significant a drop was it?

Here's the headline that CNN put on their story about the report:

Worldwide terrorist attacks down in 2003

And here's how Aljazeera headlined their story:

US report: Terrorism at 35-year low

Both headlines are true, but one of them certainly lends itself more easily to claims that terrorism is a huge problem that developed recently.

More: The BBC got it pretty much right, too:

Terror attacks 'at 30-year low'

Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a country with a free press? A year ago or so the Guardian said they were going to start a US edition. Dose anyone know what happened to that?
