Never slow to use bad news to their own advantage, Dubya's administration is using Spain's decision to pull out of Iraq to rationalize whipping up terrorism fears in the US.
On Fox News earlier today, national security advisor Condoleezza Rice says the US is peparing to deal with terrroist attacks between now and the November elections.
"I think that we do have to take very seriously the thought that the terrorists might have learned, we hope, the wrong lesson from Spain..."
"I think we also have to take seriously that they might try during the cycle leading up to the election to do something," she said.
"We are actively looking at that possibility, actively trying to see — to make certain that we are responding appropriately," she said.
And does the administration's preparations for terrorism include martial law and/or 'suspending' the elections? Just a paranoid thought ...

Posted by: Partisan J at April 19, 2004 03:50 AMMagpie, the idea that he might declare martial law has occurred to almost everyone. I suspect that terrorists would probably *rejoice* if he did so, because it might come close to destroying our faith in a once-democratic system. Terrorists are crazy, and their aim is to destroy. Nothing like having Bush available to do it for them.
