This magpie spent our Fourth of July evening watching trash televison. Specifically, we watched the mid-1990s sci-fi special-effects vehicle, Independence Day. At one point, the movie president (who is a former fighter pilot) joins the make-or-break attack on the aliens' mothership.

The movie prez reminded us of another prez:

It sure would be nice to live in a country where the juxtaposition of those two photos didn't make us wonder whether Karl Rove got the idea for Dubya's flightsuit photo-op on the USS Abraham Lincoln from a bad sci-fi movie.
And we suspect the actor in the top photo would probably make a better president than the current occupant of the White House.
