Good karma tip #947: When someone at a store is particularly helpful, or you get good service at a restaurant, don't stop at thanking them personally or leaving a nice tip. Get their name, find a manager, and pass the compliment along before you go.
The manager will be happy, the employee will be happy (and have a get out of jail free point towards one lousy day when everything seems to be going wrong), and you can walk out of that establishment feeling like a million bucks. You have the power, as they say, to deputize yourself as a promoter of job security and a spreader of good cheer.
There's a reason many jobs are considered thankless, but nowhere is it written that they have to be.
