Good news, maybe.

Democratic Underground has done a headcount in the US Senate, and it looks like the Federal Marriage Act won't pass. On a first count, 34 senators say they will vote against the amendment, one more than is needed to kill it.

This certainly adds to the speculation that nobody in the White House expects this thing to pass, and that the only reason the amendment has Dubya's support is as a way to gather votes from the religious right.

That number is way to close for comfort. They only have to woo two senators to the Dark Side and ka-pow, equal rights is fucked. Shee-it.

C Bryan Lavigne, according to said link, there are at least 34 senators against the bill. At least 35 if you count Murkowski, as someone in the comments does. The page does not say that the remainder of the senators support the amendment. AFAIK, the only Democrat who's confirmed he'll vote yes is Zell Miller.

Yah, I realize that now. I'm retarded sometimes. Thanks though.

And FYI, according to Stephen at To The Barricades, they've only got 28 votes for the amendment. No source cited.
