Tuberculosis
Quick fact, courtesy of Jill Trewhalla from Los Alamos National Laboratory, speaking at the 2004 AAAS conference: One third of the world's population is infected with tuberculosis. The disease causes 2 million deaths per year, and drug resistant strains are growing more prevalent.
