Best Story from New Hampshire

Kos, the master of all things involving the elections has a truly remarkable story that should make us all happier about where this 2004 election is going.

The best story of the night? The one that should unite us all? From the Republican primary results:

Bush 57,670
Kerry 835
Dean 633
Clark 545
Edwards 541

That's over 2,500 registered Republicans who wrote in a Democrat in their ballot.

The later results are even better: 4379 voted Dem which is 8.6% of all the Republicans voting for Bush today.

this is really interesting, mary. i've wondered how solid dubya's support is in his own party. it'll be interesting to see if this pattern repeats itself in any other republican primaries.

it also seems to tie in (in at least a vague way) with something i was thinking about earlier tonight. given how inaccurate a lot of the polls have been in predicting caucus and primary results, i'm wondering how reliable polls are going to be this year in general. in particular, i'm wondering whether at least some polling is being affected by the number of people who, when being asked to participate, decline; and by the number of people who flat-out lie to the pollsters. and, i'm wondering if the number of people who change their minds in the voting booth is particularly high this year ...

in any case, where this ramble is going is to question the accuracy of those polls that show kerry beating dubya. if the polls, for whatever reason, aren't particularly accurate this election cycle, maybe kerry *isn't* beating dubya. or, more hopefully, maybe kerry is already whipping dubya's butt, but the poll responses don't show it.

of course, i could be totally wrong about this, too. :)

Look -- there are Republicans running against Bush, as you can see here. My feeling is I would vote for any Dem candidate to get Bush out of office. Doesn't it make more sense to vote against Bush in the Republican primary?

I missed that Kos nugget. Thanks, Mary. Interesting that Lieberman didn't finish in the top 4 for Republican primary voters, that Clark finished only third (more so here than in the Dem. primary), and that among the Dems, Kerry won both primaries.
