What about those telemarketing jobs, anyway?
Remember those predictions of how millions of telemarketers would lose their jobs if a national no-call list went into effect in the US?
Now that the no-call list has been around for awhile, it occurred to us that we haven't heard of any huge layoffs of telemarketers, other than those caused when companies send the jobs to India or other offshore locations. And a fast search of Google News failed to turn up any stories. In fact, the only current story about telemarketing job losses we could find is a prediction of the job losses if the Netherlands implements a no-call list.
Our guess is that the US telemarketing biz goes on much as usual now that the no-call list is in effect. And that the Dutch biz will, too.
There's a lesson here, we think.

Rocky: George Dumbya is a d....
Bullwinkle: Not THAT lesson! THIS lesson:
All of those telemarketing jobs have been in India for YEARS! As a result, there will be no US layoffs, and no story to cite.

We're getting just as many calls from telemarketers as before. My assumption is that many companies are ignoring the list while the issue is being pursued in the courts. So of course there haven't been any layoffs. (I'm not disagreeing that the threats of these were also grossly exaggerated.)
