Do-Bad Congress
I was hoping for a do-nothing Congress. Unfortunately, this Congress has made some laws that are going to be rued for a long, long time. The combination of an Iron Hammered Congress run by the original Kapo boss, Tom DeLay, and the easily rolled Senate with a Democratic contingent who have not figured out how to build a winning strategy except on the Judicial front, has delivered some really awful bills which (worse yet) allow Bush to say he is a "successful" leader.
The NY Times headline: Pass the Sour Grapes, Not Sweet Potatoes is very appropriate for this Congress. The Republicans cheer because as Dennis Hastert said:
"The hallmark of an effective leadership is one that can deliver the votes," he said. "And we have been an effective leadership."
Yet, he forgets the other half of it. It doesn't matter how fast you get somewhere, if you are going the wrong direction. Being decisive and consistently making the wrong decision is one of the ways CEOs get fired. And our descendents one hundred years from now will be remarking on how poorly this Congress performed its duties.
