How Will Blogs Change the 2004 Election?

The Blogging of the President: 2004 blog has been launched to answer and document that question. It is my feeling that the blogosphere will have an effect on the election, if only by providing a mechanism for people to organize and to educate themselves and each other. Early indications are that the internet communities will have a much greater influence than originally thought. This website will be a useful place to watch as it examines what bloggers are saying on the election, and also documents their influence and effect. Perhaps we will get the Making of the President 19602004 by one of the participants in this blog? Certainly if there is a book written about this election, any researcher wanting to find out how the blogs affected this election can use this blog to document the impact.

Monday Christopher Lydon, also of Blogradio, features a two part audio interview with George Lakoff. The conversation ranges from thoughts about Schwarenegger and the trap the Republicans laid for Gray Davis in part 1 to Dean and Kerry and who has the language that people want to listen to without it being a rant. Lakoff believes that Frankin is good at pointing out the lies of the other side very humorously, but he doesn't express the vision that help paint a picture for people to latch onto. Lakoff believes this finding that vision will be critical in the next election as well as a messenger that can express it showing the hope and optimism underlying the vision.

A couple other contributors are Matt Stoller (of To The Point and The ClarkSphere) and Jay Rosen who publishes PressThink.

This will be a very interesting blog to follow to see what effect we in the blogosphere will make on this election. (Thanks to dKos for the tip.)
