Saturday Reading
Calpundit talks about the missing link memo that Fox is gushing about, comments on the war on California's lungs, and commentary former senior Israeli officials to call for an end to escalating crackdowns. Advice the US should heed before innocent expatriates become targets for misplaced anger.
Digby dissects a revelation via TBOGG that under the new anti-choice law, the maternal grandparents or husband, but not a pregnant woman, may sue for damages against a doctor performing an abortion. As should surprise absolutely no one, Ampersand had plenty to say about the 'partial birth' abortion ban.
Billmon agrees that it would be a Good Thing for more people to join the Freewayblogger in his freeway overpass anti-massacre movement. Billmon closes with apologies to Arlo Guthrie, but I have a feeling that Guthrie probably wouldn't mind terribly, considering the subject. Additionally, we get a perspective on George Soros' generosity to liberals and need for laryngitis, and indications that the public no longer believes so completely in honest George.
Emma at Late Night Thoughts explains how she found out why her father hates welfare as we know it, and rails once more, with feeling, against the Democratic party's circular firing squad.
Tristero says that if the facts of the matter were laid out plainly, George Bush would be wearing the 'unelectable' tag, and posts on Bono's speech at the Liberal party convention in Canada.
Shock and Awe has a picture that says it all.
Avedon at the Sideshow informs fellow UK residents that they've had a bad legislative week, even if no one was interested in telling them that until it was all over. Scroll just below for a discussion of the new push for mandatory national ID cards in Britain, which supporters allege will mysteriously overcome all possible fraud because technology is now too smart.
To The Barricades posts an important point to consider about workers' comp 'reform' as it's being considered in two states, possibly coming soon to a legislature near you.
Liberal Oasis says that, unfortunately for Republicans, pulling off a conspiracy isn't as easy as it looks when it requires the cooperation of a whole country brim-full of Iraqis.
Common Dreams: Walmart using welfare to make up for its poor employee benefits. Robert Fisk says that far from being accomodators, western nations aided and abetted the decline of democracy in the middle east. Naomi Klein points out that the privatization of Iraq is against US & international law. This last is something that she mentioned on a radio interview as an explanation for why companies operating in Iraq can't get insured, an oversight that the US Export Import Bank (funded by US taxpayers) may be called on to correct.
BBC: Forest restoration in Cuba and other areas works to prevent erosion and flooding. On the eve of Bush's widely criticized state visit to London, a high state of terror alert is announced. Nearly 12% of Asian bird species threatened, many face extinction. Many South African men refuse condoms, in spite of high rates of HIV infection. Nigerian police free child slaves from Benin smuggled into the country to work in granite mines. Longtime allies alarmed as China gets friendly with everyone. Returning from exile, Neapolitan royalty unlikely to smite their enemies with terrible vengeance, plan offering cake instead.

Please, say it ain't so Weekly Standard.
Instaquack and the other gullibles who swallowed the Weekly Standard article which didn't even bother to release the actual memo... even though it was purportedly coming from Feith...
Altogether now:
HACKS!
I read that piece on the "Magic Memo" and the message is confined to the headline and the closing sentence. Everything in between hardly supports the wrapper, although I am sure some people would like for you to so think.
Posted by: stumpy on November 16, 2003 12:42 PMYou missed the big stinker of the week - an "imaginary" tale of the assassination of all Democratic Senators by Christian terrorists!
