Bush's Money Matters
This splendid little war is costing more money than Bushco anticipated so they are out running around looking in every nook and cranny to find funds to keep the fun and games going. Joe Conason tells us that one of the more imaginative ways they have come up with concerns ripping off POWs from the first Gulf War that were tortured by Saddam. And to justify it, Bush's spokesman had a statement worth sharing:
Q: But you are opposed to them getting the money.
MR. McCLELLAN: This issue was addressed earlier this year, and we believe that there's simply no amount of money that could truly compensate these brave men and women for what they went through and for the suffering that they went through at the hands of Saddam Hussein --
Q: So no money.
MR. McCLELLAN: : -- and that's my answer.
Yup, these POWs were tortured and Bushco thinks that it is honors them more to give them no money. As Bush has never been shy to claim his rightful due from any bidnez he has been in, it is a relief that he will never have to worry about doing something where it is said that "no amount of money will truly compensate him...."
Taking time out of his busy schedule of fundraising, Bush let people know that the war was worth every dime (and life) we are spending on it:
At a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday morning, Mr. Bush said the United States was "a nation at war" and cast the loss of life in Iraq and in the struggle against terrorism as painfully necessary to protect the country and what it stands for.
"Young Americans have died in liberating Iraq and Afghanistan," Mr. Bush said. "The loss is terrible. It is borne especially by the families left behind. But in their hurt and in their loneliness, I want these families to know your loved one served in a good and just cause."
Meanwhile, Bush's friends continue to do well in Iraq.

Umm, we could have shored up our own defenses, insured our own citizens, educated our own kids, chased away our own rebels (such as League o'd South).
