Paul Wellstone
I thought my heart was ripped out last year when I heard that Paul Wellstone had died. He was always my Senator even though I never lived in MN. His optimistic, yet persistent and total commitment to a compassionate and loving world that worked for all people was simply inspiring. When I get depressed about the way things are going - how many things are going wrong and how awful the Bush regime is for the world and for the future, I find myself going back and reflecting on Paul Wellstone and how he never stopped believing that normal people could work together to help each other.
The politics of winner-take-all is designed to make people think they have to grab their crumbs before the other guy since the world is a jungle and only the fast will survive. But Paul didn't believe that and he created coalitions that proved this false. Paul taught us that working together was the best way to build the type of world where we all could thrive. And after his death, I committed myself to honoring his life by trying to help spread his message and to carry on his fight.
I love you, Paul, and I'll never forget you. RIP

It really sucks. Even worse is that Minnesota is "supposidly turning republican." My heart ices over evertime I hear that particular statement.
