Bad News Bears
Somedays it seems like the bad news has so much more weight than the good news. Today is one where it was hard to find much good although there was bad news for the Bushies that might be good news for the rest of us.
Steve Soto brings us the news that Der Gropenfuehrer (*) already has shown he is actually a standin for the wolf in sheep's clothing. The wolf being the crew that didn't think the energy companies got enough of Californians' money in the earlier round so they are ready for round two of energy deregulation. The sheep are those of us who live in California. Gee, who woulda thunk this could be the result of electing someone who had already gotten in bed with Ken Lay and has Pete Wilson as his ventriloquist?
Seeing the Forest reports on more Friday afternoon news releases which this administration loves to issue so as to muffle the angry response from people realizing they just got screwed with the Bushies "re-writing" regulations to "help" their friends. A Friday afternoon release means the majority of Americans who might care about the change will be oblivious of it until too late.
Sometimes bad news for one person is good news for others. Well, we have some good news for us and some bad news (perhaps really bad news) for the Bushies. John Dean says that even if the White House can technically say they didn't leak Valerie Plame's name, because Rove and others joined into the opportunistically using this to get back at Joesph Wilson, they could be charged with conspiracy.
If Newsweek is correct that Karl Rove declared Valerie Plame Wilson "fair game," then he should make sure he's got a good criminal lawyer, for he ma[y] need one.
Wouldn't that be a delicious outcome?
(*) Kevin Thurman let us know that Steve Lopez of the LA Times coined this Schwarzenegger label. (Thanks, Kevin.) And that the spelling should be Der Gropenfuehrer (since I don't know how to make those cool umlauts). CrowGirl suggests the label Der Gropenator which I also like, but I do think that Schwarzenegger's appeal is better described as wannabe leader therefore the Fuehrer is more accurate. (And I know those that want to use him are definitely ready to make him a cult figure for his dittoheads to follow blindly. I worry about the threat that Schwarzenegger, action hero governor, represents to our country. See David Neiwert's description of Bush's role in the transmission of the rightwing ideas into the society. I think that our actor governor is even more likely to be used by those who will stop at nothing to gain total power.)
