Read the news today... oh boy.
Julia says that Deva Life Wear is also a good clothing company for people who don't want 12 year olds stitching up our hems. She speaks very highly of their durability.
Liberal Oasis reminds us of what John Ashcroft said about special prosecutors in 1997.
The history contorting transformation from WMDs to weapons programs is now entering the final, logic-defying stages in the minds of some newsroom personnel. The linked story discusses a $10 million dollar deal which Iraq had with North Korea that fell through due to a fear of US scrutiny. And why that doesn't seem like good evidence that containment was working, I don't know.
Asia Times: For all that US journalists may seem befuddled, the intelligence community has shown itself willing to openly scoff at administration weapons claims, and notes that the DIA had people whose job it was to debunk Laurie Mylroie's claims. It's the policy, stupid. Why Dick Cheney's reputation for being the 'adult supervision' is taking hits.
Co-op America is working to grow the green business movement, and any readers in the San Francisco area are encouraged to attend their November 4th-7th conference there.
The First Stone wonders if Clark is really anti-war, and for anyone who hasn't caught it yet, a recap of conservative psychology.
FAIR talks about another recycled lie concerning the war in Iraq. But hey, at least these guys believe in recycling *something.*
Army Times: Senate Republicans block funds for personal combat gear for soldiers heading to Iraq, leaving many servicemembers in the position of having to buy their own gear. A fund for Nevada families who've lost a servicemember in combat has yet to pay out benefits.
If the Bush administration were run by sane people, they would seize on Iran's offer to help Iraq like a liferaft, and hopefully not manage to insult a bunch of people in the process. Of course, this is the Bush administration, and the only hope of anything good coming out of this is if the Iranian government is more emotionally mature than the US government. (God, did I just write that?) Some rumblings from the US and Britain may indicate that in fact, we're in big trouble if this sense of adventurism isn't thumped down hard.
Also from the Guardian, conservatives in this country must be chortling up their sleeves to see Europeans arguing about God in the constitution. Then there's the article about the war on al-Jazeera, written by the widow of an al-Jazeera reporter killed six months ago in a US missile strike. This snippet is just a signpost towards the future that the Bush administration is building for all of us:
...How should I raise my daughter? Allow me to answer the last question. I will raise her never to forgive or forget. Never to forget her father and never to forgive those who killed him. ...
Off the Kuff posted a series of articles on the state of Texas' Democrats, and it isn't pretty. But the posts are good, and constructive, even.
Greg Palast writes about Schwarzenegger's Enron connections, and why the recall may have been directly spurred by a lawsuit brought by Cruz Bustamante insisting that California be paid back its $9 billion along with Davis' refusal to go along with slap-on-the-wrist fines. Is it just me or does anyone else remember that Old Testament statute that allowed rape victims to be forced to marry their attackers?
After the shocking NY Daily News revelation that Valerie Plame is attractive, Newsday gets the other important crux of the story tucked into their review of the issue:
...Laid back, funny and frank, he has a surf club membership in keeping with his California roots and sports longish, graying hair. ...
...the 53-year-old Wilson, a dapper-dressing French speaker who sports cuff-linked sleeves and a breast-pocket kerchief, was perhaps best known as ...
God save us from surfing California French speakers with good taste in clothes, already. We will wake up some morning soon to find that the media have turned both Wilsons into de facto Hollywood liberals who have nothing to say that the public needs to hear.

Now don't go making such prophesies. You know full well they would try to do such a thing. Don't go giving them ideas!
