Profligate Wastrels
Senator Kennedy's interview has Republicans in an uproar. But the political wrangling aside, this seemed like the most interesting point:
...He said Bush officials had failed to account for $1.5 billion of the $4 billion the war costs each month, citing a recent report by the Congressional Budget Office.
"My belief is this money is being shuffled all around to these political leaders in all parts of the world, bribing them to send in troops," he told the AP. ...
Let me get this straight... The Bush administration may be spending up to $1.5 billion every month to buy friends, and we still can't get more than a token contingent of foreign troops to join us in Iraq? And still the only 'friends' we have are governments acting against the will of their people, and creepy dictators that we barely want to admit the existence of?
Now we know why all of Bush's former business endeavors failed. The man starts with every advantage in the world, and can still barely get through by cheating.
Posted by natasha at September 19, 2003 02:42 PM | TrackBackGreat point, Natasha. These guys are more than happy to spend money on their friends so they can get richer, but provide one dime to something like Americorp or providing some basic essentials to our soldiers over in Iraq - nah, we can't afford that. I really don't want them to get any more money for Iraq that isn't fully and totally accounted for.
Posted by: Mary on September 19, 2003 03:33 PMThis may sound bizarre, but I guess I am a bit relieved to observe how incompetent we are at this imperialism business. It's a bit like being an inept thief. Now perhaps we could return to our core competencies....
Posted by: James R MacLean on September 19, 2003 04:25 PMWow. Bush, if this is true, is a prime candidate for the Stupid Politician Tricks segment. He shouldn't be a candidate for anything else.
Posted by: James on September 19, 2003 05:21 PMIf anyone is stupid, it's the American people. I just don't understand why we haven't bombarded the Congress with demands that W gets impeached, along with his entire posse of corporate rustlers.
WE get the leaders we deserve.
