Roses, Roses

Caption: "Ali-Baba" is one of the few words that is understandable in both English and Arabic. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in Iraq who doesn't think Bush is an Ali-Baba (thief). After we left the demonstration, the American soldiers stole this sign away from the people. I guess they have no sense of irony.
You can find more at Anita Roddick's site, where she's posted a friend's Iraq photo album.

Posted by: Joel on September 19, 2003 06:13 AMThe "Ali Baba" label is a fairly charged term in Iraq right now. Our troops have apparently taken to calling Iraqis that, at least according to Iraq Diaries. The people understandbly bristle at that. So for them to call equate Bush with the term is a pretty strong statement.
