Backyard Realpolitik v. 2.0
Another day walking the neighborhoods for Dean. Helped a new walker through the process for the first time, and through a mostly pleasant walk endured the usual oddites (though most Western Washington folks at the doorbell are unfailingly polite, even if they firmly disagree with you).
The slightly ditzy but into it folks (“I love Dean but I wish he wasn’t so committed to labor. I really love Gephardt too… Could I have a bumper sticker?”). The immigrants and newest adult citizens that don’t quite understand what’s going on, but are glad to accept your oh-so-sexycrazycool American political literature (“My English…not so good. You have bumper stickers?”). The thankfully rare folks trying so hard to be the next Don Imus (“You look like his illegitimate son (haw-haw-haw…). I need a sticker fer my dartboard…”).
Overall, though, Dean is definitely on the radar of anybody who’s looking in Western Washington, and those who aren’t thinking about politics yet either think we precinct walkers are crazy, or that Dean must be compelling in some way – why else would we be around in September for something that doesn’t happen until February?
Can’t wait until tomorrow. I’ll be bringing buttons….
