Americans Starting To Distrust Bush's Bold Gamble
Poll: More Think Iraq War Ups Terrorism Risk
Bush spent the majority of last year and a good part of this year convincing Americans that the only way to confront terrorism was to invade Iraq and topple Saddam. Well, the White House must be pretty unhappy with today's poll that shows more Americans believe we are less safe from terrorism than before the invasion. 48% believe it increases our risk while only 40% believe it has made us safer.
So now what is left from the list of Bush's justifications?
- Revenge for 9/11: sorry wrong guys, the murderer is still out there.
- Stop Saddam's Using WMD: wrong: no WMD found, what was the rush?
- Remove a terrible man: okay, you can have that one.
- Create a democracy in Iraq: geeze, looks like that is harder than we thought.
- Get rich on the oil: well, if they would only stop setting the pipeline on fire, it might work.
- The Iraqis will welcome us with flowers: not too many flowers these days.
- Make Americans safe from terrorism: sorry, not this time.
What will Bush's next bold move be? Although it makes me nervous to think about Bush's and Rove's next bright ideas, I'm very happy to see that the American public is starting to realize that Bush's gamble increased our risk and they are starting to recognize the mess Bush has created. It will be much harder for him to fool people next time out.
