DeanCorps Food Drive & Seattle Flash Mob
Just got back a little while ago from dropping off the fruits of the Seattle DeanCorps' first Meetup food drive. It was only arranged a few days before the event, but we rounded up 196 lbs. of food for Northwest Harvest.*
And waiting for me on the Dean blog when I get home is the front page announcement that in response to today's Doonesbury, we will in fact be having a flash mob at the Space Needle this Saturday. Someone set it up through Get Local, and 14 people have signed on as of the time of this post. It'll be at 10:35am, base of the needle.
Update: Dress nicely if you're planning to come. Like you would if you were interviewing for a good job. Barring that, a Dean tee is perfectly fine. This is only a suggestion, but I think it would do wonders to ensure a good impression of the event in the media and for onlookers.
Hopping on one foot is not required, though it might be entertaining. But a willingness to do all in your power to ensure that the event comes off in a positive way is an absolute must. And one way to do that is by bringing nonperishable food items for Northwest Harvest. If everyone still wants to gather in a circle, hop, and chant (which I recommend, because if we can't have fun with this, what's the point), we can do it around a pile of donations for a good cause.
Let's see if we can beat the Meetup haul ;)
* We even got to spread the word at the foodbank. The forklift operator who picked up our donation to weigh it was glad to hear about another candidate. He said he was looking for anyone but Bush, though he hadn't heard about anyone currently running. At least, not until we showed up.
Posted by natasha at September 8, 2003 05:01 PMThere are now 21 people that have signed up for the event. This will be a wonder chance to have fun, participate in politics, experience a unique cultural event, and help bring hope to people without food.

If you are out there reading this and want some change in this world, show up for something. It's amazing how your expectations and frame of reference will be shattered--the experience will not be what you expected, and the power given to you when you in fact do show up will be immensely gratifying.
Only thing is, you must show up. Reading about it doesn't work.
