Late Night Reads
Harsh words about the President that sounded like music to my ears from James C Moore, co-author of Bush's Brain on BuzzFlash. Mr. Moore regrets voting for George W. Bush and provided this apology. Moore's rant reminded me of Natasha's equally fine rant a while ago thanking GWB for proving her right: To my shameful delight, I have not had to endure a single "I told you so" since your ascendency to office.
Avedon Carol brings us an interesting exchange between Wesley Clark and Bill Maher. Clark says what I've long believed about the war lovers: And I think the Republicans got mesmerized about the weapons! I'll say. And the Bush action doll gets a review too:
Maher: All right now, I have to tell you General, when you said bait-and-switch, you just said the magic word! Ladies and gentleman, bait-and-switch, and there it is! (the Bush fighter pilot doll drops down onto the set by parachute) (audience laughter) No heckling! This, as you may have known, we had it on the show a couple weeks ago. This is the George Bush doll, this has been put out by a company. Him in his flight suit, this is President dress-up, when he made his appearance on the aircraft carrier. I'm wondering what you think of that stunt.
Clark: First of all, I think it's a great flight suit, and a lot of... (audience applause and laughter) great men and women have worn that suit with honor, and have risked their lives, have lost their lives, in that flight suit. And I think when you see that doll, what it will remind us of is the premature celebration at the end of this war. Because this was the 1st of May, and the banner read Mission Accomplished. And you know what's come out of the Washington press this week, the leaked document from the Joint Staff and Central Command. We did our after-action review, and you know what we found, fellas? We didn't plan for the whole mission! We destroyed the Iraq army, we got to Baghdad, but we didn't have Phase 4! The post conflict operation!
Rove will have to think twice about using that propaganda clip, although I think we can help make the point stronger as a visual image. Someone on Kos' board thought taking the "Mission Accomplished" banner and replacing it with a "Miserable Failure" banner would clarify the real accomplishment. Excellent advice.
The Grey Lady informs us that David Brooks will be providing opeds for our edification on Tuesdays (poor Krugman) and Saturdays (along with Kristof). It only seems only fitting that we know what we might encounter when reading some of David Brooks fantasies. Fortunately, it is easy to find a recent example of what we can expect. Digby skewers Brook's final appearance on the PBS Newshour where he lets us know that Bush going to the UN was Bush's idea and a sign of Bush's exceptional leadership. (Gag) Wonder who decided to hire Brooks -- Gail Collins or Bill Keller?
Posted by Mary at September 8, 2003 03:38 AM | TrackBackDavid Brooks and Gwen Ifill are the 2 main reasons I've given up on the Lehrer News Hour.
Brooks is just a slimy creep of the worst kind. He loved the idea of Bush starting a pre-emptive war. He thought the horrible House plan to give all workers in the Earned Income Tax Credit by raising the ceiling to $250,000 was just a terrific idea.
The list goes on and on. On any decent traditional republican principle (they have a few) that Bush has simply dumped on Brooks stood up and cheered.
He's beyond awful. The New York Times simply have shit for brains in charge. Truly. All this crap on their pages is creating a vaccum that http to fill, just as it gradually does this very day. People don't pay for crap, or waste their time on it, either.
Posted by: paradox on September 8, 2003 11:35 AMSpeaking of Rove, the entire speech Bush delivered last night was a big heads-up as to what the main issue for Bush '04 willl be; All
terror, all the time. Linking Iraq to 9/11 as he did is disgusting. Spread the word, The Bush administration is lieing to the American people and people are dieing as a result.
