Bush Threatens Veto
Bush, national cheerleader for the economy, has threatened to veto a Democratic effort to overrule the changes to overtime pay. Well, it certainly is a relief to know that he is concentrating on what will help the economy. How many workers depend on the overtime pay? It must be quite a few, since 80% of the 129 million workers in the US are production workers with an average hourly wage of $15.45 (or $32,136 per year based on a 40 hour work week).
Bush's prescriptions for getting the economy rolling again? Make the tax cuts permanent, and oh, by the way, it's the Democrats who are standing in the way because they aren't supporting Bush's energy policies which will create a better investment environment.
Seeing the Forest asks a very good question: Who is our economy for? Bush's answer: obviously not for ordinary Americans. Too bad, since paying off the debt being racked up now will be carried by generations of those ordinary Americans.
