Scripting News
For everyone coming over from Scripting News, hi there, welcome to the blog. Just to clarify where things stand with the quote in the NY Times, it wasn't me, and they have in fact printed a correction:
"A front-page article on Wednesday about Howard Dean's cross-country campaign trip misattributed a quotation about the campaign's resemblance to a "movement" with "protest-size crowds" and not "politics-size crowds." It was from Garance Franke-Ruta, a reporter for the American Prospect, not Natasha C., who interviewed Ms. Franke-Ruta and posted the comments on her Web log, which is chronicling the campaign."
Before heading out on the Sleepless Summer tour, my only impression was that Dean could possibly win. I wasn't sure if he was the best choice out there when we got the message from the campaign requesting that one of us from Pacific Views travel with them. I hadn't at that point even donated any money to the Dean campaign.
Since then, I would now consider myself an active supporter, but I don't work for the campaign. What really sold me was the commitment and enthusiasm of the people that showed up at the four rallies I attended. It's more than a year before the election, barely a third of the electorate even knows that any candidates are running. And still, close to fifty thousand people nationwide showed up to hear Dean talk.
It was one of the most positive and encouraging experiences I've ever had, it restored my optimism about politics in this country. And there wasn't even time for more than a brief introduction to Governor Dean himself, I think some of the press members got to speak with him more than I did (not that I'm complaining, it was a tight schedule.) So, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Here's my original correction, and here's the interview with Garance Franke-Ruta that started the whole thing.
And for regular readers who already knew all of this, Scripting News recommended this article about how to run a campaign weblog. I read it, and I second that recommendation, it's a great piece.
