Sleepless Summer Fundraising
Last night at midnight, according to the Dean weblog, "11,541 Americans have raised $687,905.12." At 11am EST this morning, that stood at "$778,115 raised -- 13,140 contributors," and I was glad to know that I'd been added to the count for the first time.
As the governor said in Seattle, the average contribution is about $53. Their goal is one million dollars by the time they get to New York. And it won't happen unless a lot of people chip in just a little.
A friend of mine likes to remind me sometimes why it is that Ford, a company that makes cars that a lot of people can afford, bought Jaguar, a company that makes more expensive cars. And the reason is that even though the kind of people who can write $2,000 checks have a lot of money and power to spare, they are outnumbered better than 90-1.
I didn't figure that I'd have been doing this so early in the race, but I'll ask everyone who visits this blog to please contribute what you can. I'm absolutely convinced that the Dean campaign is working overtime on my behalf and yours. Let's give them a hand.
