Bill Maher on Davis Recall
"He's the governor. Not some guy you married in Vegas."
On the troubled California economy Davis is being blamed for: "The dotcom bubble burst, just as Gray Davis ordered. ...We went off to two foreign wars, playing right into Davis' hands. ...Enron ripped the state off for billions. So you can see the problem, Gray Davis."
"So you can see the solution, a Viennese weight lifter. Arnold Schwarzenegger: Finally, a public official who can explain the administration's social policies in the original German."

Posted by: Paula on July 27, 2003 03:06 AMWe were still cracking up from the Pat Robertson rant when he started in on the recall. 'Just because [Robertson] smiles and wears a suit doesn't make him any more sane than the ...urine stained ...guy standing on a streetcorner yelling about Jesus through a bullhorn.'
I should start taping that show.
Posted by: natasha on July 27, 2003 03:39 AMOk, though I don't always agree with his views, I totally agreed with what Maher said in that, when he made those comments he made a good point (how many of you actually got to see/hear/read the entire quote? Not just what's posted here). Even if you don't like a public official, if you didn't bother to go vote, then you have no right to complain about them. Adults are granted the RIGHT to vote, not the PRIVELEDGE. It isn't something you have to earn, it is something given at 18 and all too often wasted on the apathy of the masses. People always say "Well one vote doesn't count", but can you imagine if all the lazy people who dont' bother going to the polls or signing up for an absentee ballot voted?? What a difference THAT would make, and to throw away that right by recalling someone from office due to problems beyond his control, is not only making a mockery of the democratic process, but tossing the rights of those few Americans that actually vote in the garbage.
